The 1985 publication of the book “Ifor” (Perfumer), by author Patrick Zuskind, made him a household name. Now available for purchase in Uzbek, the book has been translated into more than 45 languages and has sold more than 12 million copies globally. The main character Grenouille’s fate is connected to the events in the book. The novel is written in an existential style and is constructed using signs and symbols. Smell serves as the backdrop against which decayed societal order and human relations are shown all the way up to the genuine upheavals of the Renaissance. The complexity of love and the fact that everything is evaluated by money are made clear through the hero’s contacts with individuals in Paris, which is referred to as the “city of love” in the world.
