“Quyosh qoraymas” by Oybek
The Sun Goes Dark (1943–1959), a prose masterpiece by Oibek honoring the valor of the Uzbek people during World War II, merits special mention. Writer began writing this book after seeing the Western Front, but he didn’t finish it until the 1950s, when he was ill and couldn’t convey the horrific facts of the war. Oybek artistically reflected the truth that the Soviet Union started the war unprepared and that millions of people, including Uzbek combatants, became “cannon fodder” as a result of the generals’ egregious mistakes by depicting Bektemir and his two colleagues in arms.
