“Besh qavat uyning oltinchi qavati” by Anor
Readers in Uzbekistan are familiar with the well-known Azerbaijani author Anor. His short stories were widely distributed in Uzbek. The author, as in past works, uses vivid and colorful imagery to explain the characters’ mental and psychological states, interpersonal interactions, and the subtleties that show the intricacy of their entwined fates in the novel “The Sixth Floor of a Five-Storied House.”
A person cannot be separated from himself or his past by a ship, a plane, or any other mode of transportation; “looking for happiness” does not entail “crossing the globe in quest of happiness.” Happiness or misery are internal to a person; you carry them with you wherever you go, to the other side of the world if you like, but you also take them: this is a very prestigious weight; wherever you are, it follows you; it neither burns nor burns, neither reduces nor increases…
